Seven and Chakotay crash behind an energy barrier on a planet they were only visiting, and find a people who have never met outsiders.

While visiting the planet Ledos, Seven and Chakotay's shuttle hits a mysterious energy barrier and crashes in a jungle. Chakotay injures his leg and is cared for by the Ventu, a pre-industrial people who live inside the barrier. While working on a way out, Seven and Chakotay learn that the barrier was put there by another species to shield the Ventu from the more advanced Ledosians. Their efforts to escape weaken it, and the Ledosians soon see a chance to exploit the land and its people. Meanwhile, Tom takes a Ledosian piloting course under a cranky instructor, Kleg. Tom puts his skills to use in a daring rescue, extracting the Ledosian team, and the barrier is restored, giving the Ventu their protection back, at least for now.
- 01The Ventu's movements were choreographed by Albie Selznick, who had worked on the Tak Tak's movements in “Macrocosm”.
