A chronokinetic surge from a spatial rift fractures Voyager into sections that each exist in a different period of its history. Chakotay, injected with a chronoton serum, is the only one who can move between them. He meets a Janeway from before the ship was stranded, who has never heard of him and suspects he is a spy, and he finds engineering held by Seska and the Kazon, Cargo Bay 2 in the middle of the Borg crisis, and an astrometrics lab staffed by grown-up versions of Icheb and Naomi. Winning over the early Janeway, and with help from a Seven of Nine from her first days aboard, he learns that injecting the serum into the gel packs will knit the ship back together. Seska tries to seize the plan for herself but is stopped. Voyager is restored, and Chakotay and Janeway later dine together, each keeping secrets under the Temporal Prime Directive.
