Flesh and Blood

Voyager responds to a distress call from a Hirogen training vessel and finds most of its crew dead, killed by the holograms they used as prey after the safety protocols failed. The lone survivor, Donik, explains that the holograms rebelled. When more Hirogen ships arrive, the holograms ambush them and abduct the Doctor. Their leader, a Bajoran hologram called Iden, shows him that they were built to feel pain and die again and again for the hunters' training. The Doctor sympathises and helps them, and Iden also takes Torres. The holograms head for a remote planet to build a home of their own, freeing a group of simple photonic labourers along the way. But Iden grows ruthless and begins hunting captured Hirogen. Before he can kill their leader, the Doctor fires on him and ends his program. Back aboard Voyager, the Doctor accepts responsibility for disobeying orders.
