Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Voyager is acquiring weapons technology from Kovin, an Entharan arms dealer. While helping in his workshop, Seven strikes Kovin, and afterwards she shows signs of distress. Using hypnosis, the Doctor helps her recover what appears to be a repressed memory: Kovin knocked her out with a weapon and extracted Borg nanoprobes from her body. Janeway takes the accusation to the Entharan magistrate, and when nanoprobes are found in Kovin's laboratory a warrant is issued for his arrest. Kovin protests his innocence and faces ruin. As Tuvok investigates further, the evidence begins to point elsewhere: Seven's own body can shed nanoprobes on contact with materials in the lab, and her memory may come from her time with the Borg rather than anything Kovin did. Before the case can be settled, Kovin panics, flees, opens fire on Voyager and is killed when his own weapons overload, leaving the question of his guilt unresolved.
- 01Michael Horton, who plays Kovin, played Starfleet officer Daniels in First Contact and Insurrection.
- 02Bryan Fuller and Lisa Klink shared the teleplay by each writing alternate scenes.
- 03Bryan Fuller later said he felt distanced from the episode, as he is always disappointed when a story turns out not to have happened.
