Entering a new sector, Harry Kim feels a powerful sense of déjà vu, develops a rash and acts on strange instincts when a Nasari ship appears. His instincts lead Voyager to Taresia, a world of mostly female inhabitants, who tell him he was sent to Earth as an embryo, carried by a human mother, and that his Taresian genes are only now awakening. Welcomed as a returning son, Kim is tempted to stay, and he befriends Taymon, another man who has come home. Meanwhile the Doctor discovers that Kim is human after all: a virus has rewritten his DNA. When Kim finds Taymon's withered body, he learns the truth: the Taresians lure men in and drain their genetic material to reproduce, killing them. The planet is sealed by a polaron barrier, but Voyager breaks through and rescues him while fending off the Nasari. The Doctor removes the alien DNA, and Kim compares his escape to Odysseus and the Sirens.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. 01Lisa Klink's original idea had Kim turn out to be genuinely alien for the rest of the series. Garrett Wang preferred that version.
  2. 02The Nasari ship reused a Romulan scout ship model first seen in The Next Generation's “The Defector”.
  3. 03Irene Tsu, who plays Kim's mother, returned to the role in the seventh season episode “Author, Author”.
