Voyager finds gallicite on an apparently uninhabited planet. In engineering, Ensign Vorik suddenly proposes to B'Elanna Torres, and when he grabs her face she knocks him down. The Doctor diagnoses his first pon farr, the Vulcan mating drive, and Vorik chooses to try meditation. On the planet, Torres grows aggressive and reckless, and Tuvok realises that Vorik's touch began a telepathic bond that has passed the condition to her. The mine turns out to be home to the Sakari, a people hiding underground from earlier invaders, and Tuvok and Chakotay are taken to meet them. Trapped in the caves with Paris, Torres urges him to mate with her, but he refuses because she is not herself. Vorik beams down and claims the right to ritual combat, and Torres chooses to fight him herself, which burns the fever out of both. As the team leaves, they find a Borg corpse: the Sakari's invaders were the Borg.
