Worf is now a prisoner in the camp run by the Romulan Tokath. Its Klingons, survivors of Khitomer, chose not to go home because capture would have shamed their families, and they have built a quiet life alongside their former captors. Their children know almost nothing of Klingon ways. Worf refuses to accept this. He teaches the young people Klingon stories, combat and hunting, and young Toq comes alive to his heritage. Worf is drawn to Ba'el, then recoils on learning that she is half Romulan, the daughter of Tokath and the Klingon Gi'ral. As unrest grows, Tokath condemns Worf to death, but at the execution the young Klingons and L'Kor stand beside him, and Tokath backs down. Worf leaves with the young people who want to go, while Ba'el stays with her parents. Worf tells Picard there were no survivors, so the camp's secret stays safe.

  1. 01The only TNG episode directed by Dan Curry, the visual effects supervisor, who also developed the mok'bara exercise routine and designed the bat'leth.
  2. 02Richard Herd's L'Kor was originally to be revealed as Worf's father Mogh, but the producers decided that would be too complicated.
  3. 03It was first planned as a single episode and expanded to two, with Data's dream story added to fill the first part.
