With the Enterprise evacuated for a deadly cleaning sweep, Picard slips back aboard to fetch his saddle and finds he is not alone.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
The Enterprise docks at the Remmler Array for a baryon sweep, a cleaning process lethal to any living thing, and the crew go ashore to the Arkaria base. Picard escapes the dull small talk of his host, Commander Hutchinson, by going back aboard to collect his riding saddle. There he finds supposed technicians who are actually thieves, led by Kelsey, out to steal trilithium resin from the warp engines, an unstable and dangerous substance. Meanwhile their accomplices take the officers at the reception hostage. Alone, Picard plays cat and mouse with the gang through the ship as the deadly sweep advances. He removes a control rod from the resin container. The crew overpower their captors on the base and halt the sweep, while Kelsey escapes in a shuttle, which is destroyed when the unstable resin explodes.
- 01It is often compared with the 1988 action film Die Hard, and has been called “Die Hard in a Jefferies tube”.
- 02Tim Russ makes his Star Trek debut here, before playing Tuvok on Voyager. Patricia Tallman later starred in Babylon 5.
- 03Morgan Gendel's original title was “Revolution”, another Beatles song like his “The Inner Light”, but it was too close to the earlier episode “Evolution”.
