With tempers fraying on the overworked Enterprise, especially between Scotty and Ortegas, Pike sends the senior staff on shore leave to a resort whose atmosphere causes a supposedly safe, temporary loss of inhibitions. Ortegas and Scotty soon find themselves together with a gap in their memories and instructions to get a message to Pike. Their shuttlecraft has been stolen, and when they recover it they find a bomb that threatens both the Enterprise and important peace talks with the Rodaxians. Their crewmates are little help: Pike gets a tattoo, Una sings Klingon power ballads, M'Benga takes up bartending, and La'An and Chapel cause chaos at an exercise class and a bingo game. Spock seems less affected, though he keeps confiding in what he assumes is a hallucination of Kirk. The pair get the shuttle and bomb off the ship, and Spock, helped by a Kirk who was real all along, beams them out just in time.
