War College cadets begin a prank campaign, beaming Academy cadets out of the showers into public places. Ake refuses to intervene and instead introduces her students to the vitus reflux, a rare protected plant that reacts to emotion. At calica trials Darem wins the captaincy over Genesis by playing on her insecurities. The Academy then challenges the War College to an illicit night match in the atrium. Darem's aggressive tactics fail, Genesis takes over and turns the game around, but the match is broken up and Ake is furious. After advice from Jett Reno, Darem makes peace with Genesis, who realises Ake has been hinting at a better kind of revenge. Disguised in a mugato costume, Caleb slips into the War College while SAM delivers growth accelerant. Tarima catches him, kisses him and raises the alarm anyway, but the protected plant overruns the War College dormitories and Kelrec concedes. Darem hands the captaincy to Genesis.
- 01The episode is dedicated to the memory of Carla Mingiardi, who worked in costume and wardrobe on Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Short Treks.
- 02Caleb's disguise is a mugato, the creature from the original series episode “A Private Little War”. The Academy's lapling mascot comes from TNG's “The Most Toys”.
