Beta Test

Classes begin, and Caleb is unhappy to find himself rooming with the cocky Darem. He keeps hacking Academy systems in search of Goja V, where Braka claimed his mother had been, but no Federation record of it exists. A delegation arrives from Betazed, whose President Sadal is reluctant to rejoin the Federation. After a humiliating class with Jett Reno, Caleb nearly walks out, but is asked to show Sadal's daughter Tarima around campus. Tarima, a powerful telepath, gives him access to Betazoid star charts, which show that Goja V lies behind Betazed's psionic barrier. When she realises why he wanted her help, they fall out and the talks stall. Ake rescues them by proposing that the Federation's seat of government move to Betazed, and Sadal accepts. Starfleet Intelligence confirms Anisha left Goja V. Tarima joins the rival War College, while her brother Ocam becomes Caleb and Darem's new roommate.
