Riker hands the Titan back to Shaw, who reports to Starfleet. The USS Intrepid arrives to take Picard and Riker into custody, led by Commander Ro Laren of Starfleet Intelligence, who betrayed Picard years ago by defecting to the Maquis. In the holodeck, Ro reveals she suspects Changelings have reached the highest levels of Starfleet. Old wounds are aired, the two reconcile, and Ro gives Picard her treasured Bajoran earring. Heading back to the Intrepid by shuttle, she finds a bomb planted by Changeling saboteurs and flies into the Intrepid, sacrificing herself and crippling the ship. Saboteurs then try to beam Jack off the Titan, but, guided by his visions, he kills them. Picard and Riker discover the earring holds Ro's intelligence on the Changelings and doubles as a communicator. Worf and Raffi, working a Vulcan criminal for access to Daystrom Station, learn something else was stolen there. Worf calls his handler, Ro, and reaches Picard and Riker instead.
