Q tells Picard that he has been dropped into an alternate timeline in which humanity founded the Confederation of Earth, a xenophobic regime that wipes out or enslaves alien species. Here Picard is the Confederation's most celebrated military commander, Seven is its president and the Magistrate's wife, and Picard has been granted the honour of executing the captive Borg Queen. His friends wake in this reality with their own memories intact. The Queen reveals that history went wrong in Los Angeles in 2024, and that only she can take them back there. While Picard and Seven stall at the public execution, Agnes, Raffi and Elnor seize control of the communications and transporter systems, and the group beams aboard Rios's ship with the Queen. Before they can escape, the Magistrate and his guards beam in, shoot and wound Elnor, and prepare to execute them all for treason.
- 01Annie Wersching takes over the role of the Borg Queen, first played by Alice Krige in Star Trek: First Contact.
- 02Producers wanted Robert Beltran to return as Chakotay in the Magistrate role, but he turned it down. Jon Jon Briones, Isa Briones's father, was cast instead.
