Picard brings Soji aboard La Sirena, where seeing her panics Rios. Jurati wakes, offers to turn herself in, and after meeting Soji gives up any thought of harming her. Rios tells Raffi that years ago his captain killed two people on Starfleet's orders and then took his own life. Raffi connects the pieces: the Romulans found an ancient warning about the dangers of advanced synthetic life, and the Zhat Vash planted Oh, who is half Vulcan and half Romulan, inside Starfleet, where she orchestrated the Mars attack. The two people Rios's captain killed were synths from Soji's home world, one of whom looked just like her. Soji's memories return, and she sets a course for home, with Narek in pursuit. On the Artifact, Seven links with the cube's dormant drones to help Elnor fight the Romulans. The Romulans vent the drones into space, abandon the cube and prepare to strike at the synths' home world.
- 01Rios's scenes with his holograms used a motion-control camera, filming Santiago Cabrera repeatedly in each role and combining the takes into single shots.
- 02The episode was designed to explain the season's mysteries, so that the finale could concentrate on the characters rather than exposition.
