The Stars at Night

Admiral Les Buenamigo proposes retiring the California-class in favour of automated Texas-class ships, and Freeman challenges him to a race between the Cerritos and the USS Aledo. Away from Starfleet, Mariner works with Petra Aberdeen, discovers that her digs are funded by Jean-Luc Picard, and admits she has been looking for a reason to go back. The Cerritos narrowly loses the race, but Freeman argues that her crew caught something the Aledo overlooked. Rutherford discovers that Buenamigo was behind the wiping of his memories, and that the Texas-class runs on corrupted code linked to his own past. When Buenamigo orders the Aledo to destroy the Cerritos, its rogue systems kill him and turn on Starfleet. Seeing the news, Mariner and Petra rally the other California-class ships, which together defeat the Texas-class threat. Mariner reconciles with her mother and returns to the Cerritos, bringing the Vulcan T'Lyn as a new recruit.
