Freeman's initiative to send California-class ships back to planets Starfleet has not checked on in years is approved, and FNN reporter Victoria Nuzé comes aboard to cover it. Anxious about how the ship will look, Freeman forbids Mariner from talking to her. The Cerritos visits Ornara, now thriving but still resentful of the Federation, then heads to Brekka. After Mariner speaks to Nuzé anyway, and the reporter confronts Freeman with embarrassing details from inside the ship, Freeman transfers her daughter to the notoriously dismal Starbase 80. A Breen ambush at Brekka leaves the Cerritos in trouble until the automated Texas-class USS Aledo comes to the rescue. When the report airs, it shows that other crew members supplied the unflattering material, while Mariner spoke warmly of her mother and the ship. Freeman tries to put things right, only to find that Mariner has resigned from Starfleet to join archaeologist Petra Aberdeen.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. 01Ornara and Brekka come from the TNG episode “Symbiosis”, in which the Ornarans depended on the drug felicium supplied by the Brekkians.
  2. 02Run-down Starbase 80 still uses TNG-era uniforms, combadges and an old Type 15 shuttlepod.
