Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus

Boimler has made a holodeck movie sequel to Mariner's “Crisis Point”, in which Romulans steal a gem that allows time travel. He loses interest in his own production after learning that his transporter duplicate, William, has apparently been killed in a gas leak. While Tendi takes charge of the story and discovers that she would love to be a captain one day, with Rutherford backing her, Boimler wanders off-script in search of meaning, and Mariner sticks by him through the adventure. Badly dehydrated, Boimler has a vision of Captain Hikaru Sulu, who advises him to accept that life is random and to find joy in it anyway, and he begins to come to terms with his grief. In a final twist, William turns out not to be dead at all: he faked his death to join Section 31, Starfleet's secret intelligence division.
