Inside the Delphic Expanse, Enterprise reaches a mining penal colony where Archer hopes to learn the location of the Xindi homeworld. He bargains with the colony's foreman, trading liquid platinum for a meeting with Kessick, a Xindi-Primate labourer. Kessick reveals that the Xindi are five separate species, but will only give the coordinates of their homeworld, Xindus, if Archer helps him escape. Archer refuses at first, then learns that the foreman has summoned warships to seize Enterprise's crew. Archer, Tucker and Kessick flee through the mine's sewage conduits, but the foreman floods them with plasma and they are captured. Aboard Enterprise, T'Pol persuades Reed to send in the newly arrived MACOs, who rescue the prisoners. Kessick dies, but not before giving Archer the coordinates. When Enterprise arrives, it finds only debris, the remains of a world destroyed around 120 years earlier. The episode also introduces the Xindi Council.
- 01Brannon Braga said the team saw this episode as a pilot of sorts, re-establishing an Enterprise that would be a little different that year.
- 02The blue trellium-D dirt was made by feeding blue-painted Styrofoam through a wood chipper. The debris spread across the Paramount lot.
- 03The Xindi-Reptilian uniforms were reused Reman costumes from the film “Star Trek Nemesis”, with metal coils added at the shoulders.
