In April 2153 an alien probe appears over Earth and cuts a path of destruction from Florida to Venezuela, killing millions, among them Trip Tucker's younger sister, Elizabeth. As Enterprise is recalled home, Archer is briefly abducted by the Suliban Silik, and a shadowy figure from the future tells him the attackers were the Xindi, a species persuaded that humanity will one day destroy them. Wreckage from the probe appears to date from centuries in the future, and Starfleet agrees to send Enterprise into the Delphic Expanse, the uncharted region the Xindi call home. The ship is refitted with new weapons and a unit of MACO soldiers. The Vulcans order T'Pol reassigned, but she resigns her commission to stay. The Klingon Duras, given a ship to pursue Archer and restore his honour, attacks repeatedly until Enterprise finally destroys him, and Archer takes his crew into the Expanse.
