Enterprise is struggling through the Delphic Expanse, buffeted by dangerous spatial anomalies. Mayweather detects a nearby ship with no life signs, and Archer leads an away team, including Reed and MACO soldiers, to search the dead vessel for anything useful. Soon afterwards an alien ship approaches and Osaarian pirates beam aboard Enterprise, seizing weapons, food and equipment before escaping. One raider, Orgoth, is captured. Archer follows the pirates to their base, a vast sphere around a thousand years old, where stolen cargo is stored. Hoshi finds a manifest showing that the Osaarians have recently dealt with the Xindi. When Orgoth refuses to cooperate, Archer puts him in an airlock and begins to decompress it, and the terrified prisoner gives up access codes to a Xindi database the pirates have downloaded. When the Osaarian ship returns, Mayweather manoeuvres Enterprise so that Hoshi can copy most of the database, and Archer hands Orgoth back.
- 01Mike Sussman originally wanted the pirates to be Orions, but they became the newly created Osaarians during rewrites.
- 02Julia Rose's spacesuit as Corporal McKenzie was reused from the 2003 film “The Core”, where it had been worn by Hilary Swank.
- 03Sussman said Brannon Braga contributed significantly to the script, including the confrontation at the airlock.
