T'Pol has Pa'nar Syndrome, a degenerative neurological disease she contracted from the mind meld forced on her in “Fusion”. Among Vulcans the illness carries a deep stigma, because it is spread only by mind melding, a practice the mainstream shuns. When Phlox's treatment stops working, he consults Vulcan doctors at an interspecies medical exchange against T'Pol's wishes. The Vulcans trick her into giving a sample, confirm their suspicions and prepare to report her, which could end her career. One of them, Dr Yuris, secretly reveals that he too is a melder and urges her to tell the truth about how she was infected, but she refuses. Archer uses Vulcan protocol to force a hearing and speaks up for her while T'Pol stays silent. Yuris then exposes himself and reveals the truth about her meld. He is suspended, T'Pol keeps her post, and she resolves to argue Yuris's case to the High Command. Meanwhile Phlox's wife Feezal pursues a baffled Tucker.

  2. 02The episode opened with a tribute to the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia.
  3. 03A direct sequel to season one's “Fusion”, the episode in which T'Pol contracted the condition through a forced mind meld.
