Looking to trade for fuel at a struggling mining colony, the Enterprise crew discovers the miners live in fear of regular visitors.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Low on deuterium, the Enterprise finds a small mining colony and agrees with its leader, Tessic, to repair two broken pumps in exchange for fuel. But the colony has a problem: a band of Klingons led by Korok arrives to take the deuterium it extorts from them, and threatens them when the supply falls short. Rather than leave, Archer persuades the miners to stand up for themselves. T'Pol teaches them Vulcan unarmed combat, while Reed and Hoshi train them with weapons, and the crew secretly moves the whole settlement a short distance away. When the Klingons return, the colony appears deserted. The defenders spring their trap, luring the raiders into the old site and igniting the deuterium wellheads around them. Ringed by fire, the Klingons retreat, and Tessic tells them never to return. The grateful miners give the Enterprise far more fuel than it asked for.
- 01T'Pol teaches the Vulcan martial art Suus Mahna, named after co-producer Mike Sussman.
- 02Scott Bakula said the colony set was the largest built for the series so far. Most of the shoot took place at a quarry in Ventura County, California.
- 03Jesse James Rutherford, who plays Q'Ell, later became lead singer of the band The Neighbourhood.
