Badly damaged, the Enterprise is directed to an automated repair station that seems almost too good to be true.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Still crippled after the Romulan minefield, the Enterprise sends out a distress call. A Tellarite ship replies with the location of a repair station a few days away. The station proves to be fully automated: it scans the ship, adjusts itself to fit, and offers complete repairs in return for a quantity of warp plasma. Archer accepts despite his doubts, and the crew enjoys the facilities while Reed's injured leg is treated. Tucker and Reed, suspicious, try to reach the station's computer and are confined to quarters for it. Then Mayweather is found dead, until Phlox discovers the body is a lifeless copy. Archer and T'Pol break into the restricted area and find aliens of many species, Mayweather among them, wired into the station as living components of its computer. They free Mayweather, Tucker detonates the warp plasma, and the Enterprise escapes. Behind them, the wrecked station begins to repair itself.
- 01Director Roxann Dawson also provided the uncredited voice of the station computer, after Rick Berman persuaded her.
- 02Won a Visual Effects Society award for models and miniatures and was nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series.
- 03Filmed after “A Night in Sickbay” but aired first, because it follows directly on from “Minefield”.
