Face the Strange

Moll and L'ak buy a Krenim chronophage, a temporal weapon, and plant it aboard Discovery on Adira's uniform. When it activates, the ship starts jumping between moments in its history, and only Burnham and Rayner, caught mid-transport as it struck, remember each jump. They find themselves in the shipyard where Discovery was built, in the battle against Control, during the Emerald Chain's attack and in a bleak future in which the Federation has been devastated. Stamets, whose tardigrade DNA keeps him aware too, works out how to stop the device, but a temporal shield protects it. Back in the 23rd century, Burnham must persuade the crew, including her own younger self, to push the ship to maximum warp so that dropping out of it will break the shield, letting Rayner disable the bug. Discovery returns to the present to find only six hours have passed, and the thieves' trail has gone cold.
