Discovery releases the hydrocarbon that represents peace into the hyperfield. The ship is drawn inside and sealed within an orb of unknown material. The 10-C reply with hydrocarbons of their own and patterns of light, which the crew decode as a mathematical bridge language. Through it, the 10-C ask why their anomaly was destroyed, and the crew explain the fear and harm it has caused. Aboard Book's ship, Tarka plans to use Ndoye to trigger a plasma stream that will let them break out of the orb and head straight for the anomaly's power source. Reno realises that seizing it now would destroy the hyperfield, everyone inside it, and probably Earth and Ni'Var as well. When Book confronts Tarka, Tarka uses his upgrades to the ship to restrain him. As Discovery asks the 10-C to withdraw the anomaly, Ndoye carries out Tarka's plan, the ship breaks free and the 10-C fall silent. Reno manages to warn Burnham.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. 01The writers wanted 10-C to be unlike any species in Star Trek or other science fiction, and worked with science consultant Erin Macdonald and METI to imagine how it might communicate.
  2. 02Glenn Hetrick of Alchemy Studio and creature designer Neville Page designed the 10-C. Olatunde Osunsanmi did not want them able to walk, so thought went into how they could float.
  3. 03Book explains that he is the fifth courier to be given the name Cleveland Booker.
