Coming Home

Tarka begins taking apart the container around the anomaly's power source, unleashing dangerous bursts of plasma. T'Rina learns that the 10-C share a connected mind and cannot grasp that Tarka is acting alone. Discovery overloads its spore drive to break out of the orb, but the plasma keeps it from reaching Book's ship. Seeking to make amends, Ndoye rams Book's ship with a shuttle, and Tarka is killed. Ndoye and Reno are beamed to safety, but Book appears to be lost. As Earth and Ni'Var are evacuated, Burnham's team meet the 10-C on a world inside the hyperfield and explain that Tarka acted alone. The 10-C switch off the anomaly and reveal that they rescued Book. Drawing on his empathy and his grief, Book persuades them to abandon the anomaly altogether and help those it has harmed. The 10-C send Discovery home through a wormhole, Earth rejoins the Federation, and Book is sentenced to help the anomaly's victims.
