Georgiou's blackouts are worsening. Dr Kovich reveals the cause: after travelling between universes and across centuries, her body is coming apart at the molecular level, and there is no known cure. Kovich points her to the planet Dannus V, and Burnham goes with her. There they meet Carl, a genial stranger guarding a mysterious doorway. Georgiou steps through and finds herself back in the Mirror Universe, as Emperor aboard the ISS Discovery, at a time before she ever crossed into the prime universe. Knowing what lies ahead, she watches Mirror Burnham, who is secretly plotting against her. Georgiou plays the ruthless Emperor while testing whether she can change the outcome. She exposes the conspiracy, but when the moment comes to punish her adopted daughter, she chooses to spare Burnham rather than execute her.
