People of Earth

In a personal log, Burnham recalls her year alone as a courier with Book. Reunited with her crew, she finds that Saru has led them well, and he formally becomes captain with Burnham as his first officer. Following a message from Admiral Senna Tal, Discovery heads for Earth, only to learn that the planet has left the Federation and hides behind a defensive shield under the watch of Ndoye. Earth is being harassed by raiders who demand dilithium. Without permission, Burnham and Book go to meet the raiders' leader, Wen, and uncover the truth: the raiders are humans from a colony on Titan, cut off from Earth for a century. Saru brokers a peace between the two sides. Adira, a gifted young member of Earth's crew, is revealed to carry Senna Tal's Trill symbiont, and joins Discovery. The crew end the day together beneath a tree at Starfleet Academy.
