Admiral Cornwell brings Pike disturbing news about Section 31, and a dangerous mission to the organisation's headquarters tests the bridge crew to the limit.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Admiral Cornwell comes aboard the renegade Discovery and shows Pike proof that the footage framing Spock for murder was faked. She suspects Control, the artificial intelligence Section 31 uses to assess threats, has gone rogue. Spock, still hostile to Burnham, challenges her habit of blaming herself for everything. Discovery travels to Section 31's headquarters through a deadly minefield. Airiam, secretly controlled by the infection from the probe, joins Burnham and Nhan on the station, where they find that the admirals who oversee Section 31 are long dead and have been replaced by holograms. Airiam's true task is to hand Control the sphere's data. In a final moment of clarity she begs Burnham to eject her into space. Burnham cannot bring herself to do it, and Nhan opens the airlock. As Airiam dies, the crew see the memories she treasured of the human woman she once was.
- 01Hannah Cheesman took over the role of Airiam from Sara Mitich and played her throughout season 2, after Mitich talked her through her approach.
- 02Cheesman's Airiam makeup took more than two hours every morning, including a bald cap, a cowl, added lips and ears, and oversized contact lenses.
- 03Jonathan Frakes's second episode of the season, after “New Eden”. Writer Michelle Paradise became co-showrunner with Alex Kurtzman from season 3.
