New Eden

A second red signal appears in the Beta Quadrant, far beyond any ship's reach at warp, so Pike asks a reluctant Stamets to use the spore drive once more. Discovery finds a planet where a small, pre-warp community of humans lives around a church that blends Earth's faiths. Their ancestors were taken from a World War III battlefield, they believe, by an angel. Pike, Burnham and Owosekun go down in disguise, determined to respect the Prime Directive, but are exposed by Jacob, a villager who secretly keeps old technology alive. Overhead, debris from the planet's ring threatens the settlement with deadly radiation. Tilly, injured and now seeing visions of a school friend called May, devises a way to use the asteroid fragment to draw the debris away. Pike quietly rewards Jacob's faith in science, and footage from an old soldier's helmet camera shows the angel at the original rescue.
