Burnham delivers Lorca as a prisoner to the ISS Charon, the Emperor's flagship, hoping to find the Defiant's secrets. Emperor Georgiou raised the mirror Burnham as her own, and, facing execution, Burnham confesses that she comes from another universe. Georgiou kills her advisers to keep the secret. Inside the mycelial network, the comatose Stamets meets his mirror double, who has been trapped there and reveals that the network is being poisoned. He also encounters the spirit of Hugh Culber. On Discovery, Saru persuades L'Rell to help Tyler, and she performs a Klingon ritual that seems to strip away Voq's personality. Burnham learns that mirror Terrans are sensitive to light, and realises that Lorca shares the same trait. The truth falls into place: Discovery's captain is the mirror Lorca, who manipulated his way into the prime universe and has been using Burnham to return home.
