Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Kira brings a gravely ill Odo back to the station. Bashir lures Section 31's Luther Sloan aboard with false word that he has found a cure, and he and O'Brien capture him. Sloan triggers a device that begins to destroy his brain, so Bashir and O'Brien use a mind-probing device to enter his consciousness and search for the cure before he dies. Inside, they meet versions of the people in Sloan's life and a darker side of the man himself. They believe they have escaped, until Bashir notices his novel has reset mid-chapter and realises they are still trapped in Sloan's mind. They find Sloan in a version of his office, filled with Section 31's secrets. Bashir is tempted to learn all he can, but O'Brien persuades him to take the cure and go. They wake as Sloan dies. Bashir prepares the cure, and Odo is restored to health.
- 01Odo and Kira were first meant to hunt for the cure, but they were busy with Damar's resistance, so the task passed to Bashir and O'Brien.
- 02To save money for the finale, the story was moved from a planet to the station, and Sloan's mindscape was filmed on existing DS9 sets.
- 03William Sadler's third and final appearance as Luther Sloan.
