With the Breen weapon making allied ships helpless, only Klingon vessels can be adapted to fight on. Sisko sends Kira, with Odo and Garak, to teach Damar's rebels guerrilla tactics, and Starfleet gives her a commission so the Cardassians will respect her rank. The Cardassians struggle to accept lessons from a Bajoran who once fought them. Chancellor Gowron arrives and takes command of the Klingon forces from Martok, more interested in his own glory than in sound strategy. Bashir discovers that Odo has the disease that is killing the Founders, and Odo hides the news from Kira. Bashir comes to suspect that Section 31 deliberately infected Odo during medical tests years earlier, so he would carry the disease to the Great Link. On Bajor, Dukat tries to read the forbidden Pah-wraith texts and is struck blind. Winn casts him out.
