Worf's ship is destroyed in a Dominion attack and he is listed as missing. Ezri takes a runabout into the Badlands and finds his escape pod, but their reunion is awkward, weighed down by Jadzia's memories and their unresolved feelings. When their runabout is attacked, they beam down to a planet, where the tension between them turns romantic before they are captured by the Breen. On the station, Sisko buys land on Bajor to build a home and proposes to Kasidy, who accepts. The Prophets, appearing to him as his mother Sarah, warn that the marriage will bring him only sorrow. On Cardassia, the Female Changeling's mysterious illness is worsening, and Damar is growing tired of taking orders from the Dominion. Dukat, meanwhile, undergoes surgery to pass as a Bajoran, ready to serve the Pah-wraiths. The episode ends with every thread left hanging.
