Shaken by the Prophets' warning, Sisko breaks off his engagement to Kasidy, leaving her hurt and confused. On Bajor, Kai Winn has a vision promising her a guide who will help her lead Bajor, and soon meets Anjohl, a humble Bajoran farmer who is really Dukat in disguise. He plays on her resentment of Sisko's standing as the Emissary and seduces her. Worf and Ezri remain prisoners of the Breen, and the strain of interrogation shows when a dazed Ezri talks about Bashir, upsetting Worf. Sisko decides he will not let the Prophets run his life, and he and Kasidy are married by Admiral Ross in a small ceremony on the station. A vision of the Sarah Prophet interrupts the vows, but his choice stands. Elsewhere, the Breen formally join the Dominion and hand Worf and Ezri over to Weyoun as a gift, a sign of the new alliance.
- 01Originally titled “Umbra”. It changed late in production, when the Sisko and Kasidy wedding was moved into this episode from the next one.
- 02The words Admiral Ross uses at the wedding closely follow those used by Kirk in “Balance of Terror” and Picard in “Data's Day”.
- 03James Otis was meant to play Solbor in this episode only, but impressed enough that the role was expanded into the next two episodes.
