Sisko, now adjutant to Admiral Ross, has to send Dax to command the Defiant on a raid against a vital Dominion sensor array, and finds it hard to watch from the sidelines. On Deep Space Nine, Kira's resistance cell works to drive a wedge between the Cardassians and their Dominion masters. Then the Female Changeling arrives and encourages Odo to link with her, reconnecting with the people he left behind. When Damar works out how to bring down the minefield that keeps Dominion reinforcements away, Kira and Rom plan to sabotage the station's systems, and Odo agrees to switch off the security alarms. But at the crucial moment Odo is lost in the Link and forgets. The alarms go off, Rom is arrested, and Kira is left wondering whether she can still trust her closest friend.
