Dax takes Worf on holiday to Risa, the famous pleasure planet, hoping it will be good for their relationship. It goes badly from the start. Worf is uncomfortable with the indulgent atmosphere, and he meets Arandis, a Risian who was once the lover of Curzon Dax. He also meets Pascal Fullerton of the New Essentialists, a radical movement opposed to the kind of comfortable living Risa stands for. After an act of vandalism blamed on the group, Worf decides to help them and sabotages Risa's weather control system to drive the tourists away. Fullerton has more dangerous plans, and his tampering begins to cause earthquakes. Worf finally explains to Dax why he keeps such tight control of himself: as a boy he accidentally killed a schoolmate. He stops Fullerton, restores the planet's systems and makes up with Dax. Back on the station, Bashir and Leeta end their relationship, and Leeta turns her attention to Rom.
