Returning from a conference on Bajor about the Cardassian occupation, Sisko, Dax, Odo and Garak are found unconscious aboard their runabout. In their minds, they have woken up on Terok Nor years earlier, during the occupation, where everyone around them sees them as Bajorans. They soon realise they are living through the last days of three Bajorans accused of trying to assassinate Gul Dukat. Security on the station is run by a stern Cardassian named Thrax. Odo grows more and more uneasy, until he confesses the truth: he was the security chief then, and he let the three men be executed on circumstantial evidence. They were innocent. The shared experience turns out to be a telepathic link, set off by a plasma storm and shaped by Odo's guilt. Back on the station, Odo tells Kira what he did. She needs to know whether any other innocent people died on his watch, and he cannot promise her that they did not.

  2. 02Kurtwood Smith said playing Thrax helped him win the role of Annorax in Voyager's “Year of Hell”.
  3. 03Director LeVar Burton nicknamed the production “Nightmare on Odo Street”.
