The Federation is sending industrial replicators to Cardassia, and the shipment passes through Deep Space Nine. Odo and Starfleet security officer Lt Cdr Michael Eddington warn Sisko that his girlfriend, freighter captain Kasidy Yates, may be supplying the Maquis. When she refuses to let her cargo be inspected, Sisko and Worf follow her ship, the Xhosa, into the Badlands and watch it hand supplies to a Maquis vessel. But with Sisko away, Eddington overpowers Kira, orders his security team to move the replicators onto a waiting ship and escapes with them. He then contacts Sisko to admit that he has been working for the Maquis all along. Kasidy later returns to the station alone to give herself up. In a lighter subplot, Dukat's daughter Ziyal tries to befriend Garak, who at first suspects she has been sent to kill him but comes to welcome her company.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. 01Story writer Mark Gehred-O'Connell was inspired by the Oklahoma City bombing, when suspicion first fell on the wrong people, and wanted the least likely person to be the prime suspect.
  2. 02Tracy Middendorf played Ziyal in this episode only. Cyia Batten played her before, and Melanie Smith took over the role afterwards.
  3. 03The Xhosa's bridge was built partly from pieces previously used for the interior of the Saratoga, Sisko's ship in the pilot.
