The Muse

Lwaxana Troi arrives at Deep Space Nine pregnant and on the run from her Tavnian husband, Jeyal, who intends to take their unborn son from her. Odo, her unlikely friend, comes up with a plan: under Tavnian law, Jeyal cannot claim the child if Lwaxana is married to someone else. Odo offers to marry her himself, and the ceremony goes ahead with Jeyal in attendance, leaving his claim in ruins. Meanwhile Jake meets Onaya, a striking older woman who takes an intense interest in his writing. In her company the words flow as never before, and he begins an ambitious novel, Anslem, even abandoning plans with his father to keep working. But each session drains him a little more. Sisko finally finds Onaya about to take the last of Jake's life. She admits that she feeds on the minds of artists while helping them create great work, then reveals her true form as a being of energy and vanishes.
