Worf's brother Kurn arrives on the station with a desperate request that tests Worf's loyalty to Klingon tradition and to his new life.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Worf's younger brother Kurn arrives with grim news. Because Worf opposed the Klingon Empire's war against Cardassia, their family, the House of Mogh, has been stripped of its wealth, honour and political power. Kurn asks Worf to restore some honour by killing him in a ritual. Worf begins the ceremony, but Dax and Odo burst in, Bashir saves Kurn's life, and Sisko forbids any further attempt. Worf finds his brother a post on Odo's security staff, but Kurn, seeing no point in living, lets himself be shot. Meanwhile, cloaked Klingon ships are secretly laying mines around the station, and Worf and Kurn go undercover to obtain the codes. Kurn kills a Klingon officer to protect Worf, deepening his despair. Accepting that Kurn cannot live without honour, Worf has Bashir erase his memory. Kurn becomes Rodek, placed with a family friend, and when Rodek asks if Worf is family, Worf says he has none.
- 01The last of Tony Todd's four appearances as Kurn, a character introduced in The Next Generation's “Sins of the Father” in 1990.
- 02The producers discussed bringing Tony Todd back as Rodek, but it never happened on screen.
- 03Worf's mek'leth was created for him when he joined DS9, but this is the first episode to name it.
