Ashes to Ashes

A wounded alien reaches Voyager and says she is Ensign Lyndsay Ballard, killed on an away mission years before. She explains that the Kobali reproduce by reviving the dead of other species and remaking them as Kobali. Her memories and her DNA confirm her story, and the Doctor works to restore her human appearance. Harry Kim, who was close to her, is overjoyed, but Ballard struggles: food tastes wrong, she slips into Kobali speech, and her emotions are unstable. Her body keeps reverting, needing constant treatment. When her Kobali father, Q'Ret, comes for her, she realises she no longer belongs on Voyager and chooses to go with him, parting from Harry tearfully. Meanwhile, Seven struggles to manage the Borg children with strict schedules. When they rebel, Chakotay helps her see that they need freedom as well as discipline, and she learns to loosen up.
