Voyager trades with Abaddon, a junk dealer whose yard is full of salvaged ships. Tom Paris falls for a small derelict shuttle and gets permission to restore it. The craft is flown through a neural interface, linking pilot and ship mind to mind, and Tom names it Alice. Soon he hears Alice's voice in his head, and he begins neglecting his duties, his appearance and B'Elanna. He steals parts for the shuttle and starts wearing a special flight suit. When B'Elanna slips aboard to investigate, Alice traps her and cuts her life support. Tom rescues her, but then flies off with Alice. Abaddon reveals that the shuttle carries an alien consciousness that wants to reach a particle fountain, which will destroy it and its pilot. B'Elanna reaches Tom through the interface, Tuvok breaks the link and Tom is beamed out before Alice is destroyed. Tom and B'Elanna make up in sickbay.
