While Voyager is docked at a busy trading outpost, three strangers come looking for Seven of Nine. They were once drones alongside her, and they want answers about what happened to them.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Voyager docks at the Markonian outpost, and visitors come aboard. Three of them approach Seven with Borg implants from her old unimatrix and try to inject her with nanoprobes. They are former drones, imperfectly freed from the Collective and still linked mind to mind, and they believe Seven holds the key to a lost memory. Seven agrees to share their link. Flashbacks reveal that years earlier the four of them survived a Borg crash on a planet. While waiting for rescue, the other three began to rediscover their individuality, but Seven forced them back into the Collective's hold. Now the Doctor can sever their link, but doing so will leave them only about a month to live. After talking with Chakotay, Seven argues that a brief life as individuals is worth more than a long one as drones. The three part ways: Lansor stays at the outpost, Marika joins Voyager and P'Chan goes to a quiet world.
- 01Ronald D. Moore's only Voyager script during his brief spell as co-executive producer, which ended shortly afterwards.
- 02Director Terry Windell filmed the flashback scenes in a slightly different aspect ratio from the rest of the episode.
- 03Vaughn Armstrong, who plays Lansor, later played Admiral Forrest on Enterprise.
