Tom and B'Elanna's wedding and a new high-speed warp drive bring hope of reaching home within two years, until the ship and its crew start to fall apart.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres marry, and a newly enhanced warp drive promises to bring Voyager home in about two years. Then the ship's systems begin to fail, and B'Elanna falls ill with a disease that is breaking down her cells. The crew make a shocking discovery: they are the biomimetic duplicates created on the Class Y “Demon” planet, and have forgotten their origins. The new warp field is accelerating their decay. As crew members die, Janeway seeks another Class Y planet, but the one they find is already being mined, and she refuses to take it by force. The ship turns back towards the original planet as the crew dwindle, and a time capsule is prepared to preserve their story. With Harry Kim in command, the last survivors detect the real Voyager, but they disintegrate before contact is made. Janeway's crew find only debris and never learn who they were.
- 01A direct sequel to season 4's “Demon”, in which the crew were duplicated on the Class Y planet. Anson Williams directed both episodes.
- 02Co-writer Nick Sagan reportedly pushed for the tragic ending. An earlier draft had the real Voyager find the time capsule.
- 03The duplicate Paris and Torres marry here. The real couple do not wed until the season 7 episode “Drive”.
