After destroying a Borg probe, Janeway decides to go on the offensive: Voyager will raid a damaged Borg sphere and steal its transwarp coil. To prepare, Seven studies the logs of her parents, Magnus and Erin Hansen, scientists who followed the Borg aboard the Raven, and relives the days before her family was assimilated. The heist succeeds, but the Borg Queen speaks to Seven and threatens to assimilate Voyager unless she returns, so Seven stays behind. In the Queen's lair Seven learns that her escape was allowed: the Queen wants her to remain an individual so she can help the Collective understand humanity. Ordered to help assimilate another species, Seven quietly helps some of its people escape, and she is shown her father, now a drone. Janeway leads a rescue mission in the Delta Flyer, and together they escape the Queen through a transwarp conduit. The stolen coil shaves years off Voyager's journey before it burns out.
