Unknown ships attack Voyager and use transporters to steal equipment, including the main computer processor and the Doctor's mobile emitter. Tracking the stolen goods to a planet of traders, Janeway and Tuvok discover that the emitter is now running her holographic Leonardo da Vinci, who believes he has been carried off to the Americas and has found a new patron in Tau, a dealer in stolen technology. Posing as a buyer at Tau's gathering, Janeway learns that he has Voyager's processor. Leonardo's maps help Tuvok and Seven locate the storehouse, but a dispersion field blocks the transporters, so Janeway must get inside herself. When Tau uncovers the scheme, Leonardo takes Janeway's side. He is shot during the escape and is baffled to find himself unharmed. Janeway recovers the processor, and the pair escape in a flying machine of Leonardo's design before being beamed aboard, where he begins to dream of visiting the King of France.
