Hiding in a nebula, Janeway and a skeleton crew keep the wrecked Voyager going, the captain refusing rest despite her injuries. Aboard the timeship, Annorax treats Chakotay and Paris as guests, and Chakotay agrees to help with his calculations on condition that no more species are erased. He learns Annorax's secret: an early incursion, aimed at another people, accidentally caused a plague that killed millions of Krenim, his wife among them, and for two centuries he has tried to undo it. Paris and the disillusioned crewman Obrist plot a mutiny, while Janeway gathers allied ships for an assault. The timeship's shields fall, but the battle goes badly, and Janeway finally rams Voyager into the timeship. Its destruction erases the timeship from history and the timeline resets. Voyager meets a courteous Krenim commander who simply asks it to avoid their space, and Annorax, long ago, sets aside his work to spend time with his wife.
- 01Annorax's name appears to nod to Professor Aronnax in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Paris even calls him “Captain Nemo”.
- 02Part I was directed by Allan Kroeker and Part II by Mike Vejar, both from scripts by Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky.
- 03Kirsten Beyer's novel A Pocket Full of Lies depicts Voyager's first contact with the Nihydrons in the original timeline.
