Torres, Paris and Lt Peter Durst are captured by the Vidiians. Searching for a cure for the Phage, the scientist Sulan splits Torres into two beings, one fully Klingon and one fully human, to study the Klingon resistance to disease. The Klingon Torres is infected with the Phage while she is held prisoner, and Sulan becomes infatuated with her. The human Torres stays with Paris and Durst among the captives. Sulan, disfigured by the disease, grafts the murdered Durst's face onto his own in the hope of winning over his Klingon prisoner. The Klingon Torres escapes and rescues her human counterpart, and the two work together to bring down the facility's shields, helped by Chakotay in a Vidiian disguise. The Klingon Torres gives her life protecting the others. Back on Voyager, the Doctor reintegrates the two, and Torres admits that the conflict between both sides of her remains.
- 01Brian Markinson plays both Sulan and Durst. He auditioned for Sulan, and Durst was introduced in “Cathexis” to give his fate here more weight.
- 02Kenneth Biller drew on his adopted brother's experience of growing up with a biracial identity.
- 03It was Jonathan Glassner's only Star Trek writing credit. He went on to co-develop Stargate SG-1.
