Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
On the Banean homeworld, Tom Paris is found guilty of murdering the scientist Tolen Ren. His sentence is to relive the killing through the victim's eyes every 14 hours. The memories look damning: Paris had been spending time with Ren's wife, Lidell, and appears to stab Ren to death. Tuvok takes up the investigation, performing a mind meld with Paris and noticing details that do not add up, including the killer's height. He also finds that Banean military information has been encoded within the implanted memory. Tuvok proves Paris innocent. The Banean doctor, who is Lidell's lover, was behind the plot and planted the memories to frame Paris, using him as an unwitting carrier to smuggle classified data to the Numiri, the Baneans' enemies. The doctor and Lidell are arrested, and the implanted memory is removed from Paris's mind.
- 01LeVar Burton's first Voyager episode as director.
- 02Ray Reinhardt, who plays Tolen Ren, had played Admiral Aaron in The Next Generation's “Conspiracy”.
- 03The premise resembles Deep Space Nine's later “Hard Time”, which also punishes a character with implanted memories.
